What does Baseball Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa love more: baseball or pets? We asked Tony as he joined us live from Arizona, courtesy of Nestle Purina’s Petfinder, North America’s largest online pet adoption website.
La Russa has teamed up with Petfinder to celebrate its 20th anniversary to help get more pets adopted. Petfinder is asking animal lovers to join their 20-year celebration by watching and generating one million views of its #MetOnPetfinder anniversary video to help deserving shelters and rescue partners support even more adoptable pets. If the video reaches its goal of 1 million views by October 24, 2016, a $200,000 donation will be made to The Petfinder Foundation for shelters and rescues across the country.
La Russa’s love for pets started with a stray cat trapped during a game in Oakland Coliseum on May 7, 1990. La Russa cared for the frightened feline in the dugout. After realizing there was not a single “no kill facility” shelter in the San Francisco’s East Bay, he and his wife co-founded Tony La Russa’s Animal Resucue Foundation (ARF). Since 1996, more than 25 million pets have been placed in homes. That’s a pretty good batting average.
